Home Run Number 43

A stock in my portfolio that doubles my original capital outlay in total returns is a Home Run stock. I enjoy writing these milestone articles, as they remind me why I'm still a passionate and enthusiastic dividend growth investor!

In December, I announced my 42nd Home Run stock, CVS Health Corporation (CVS). CVS just recently announced a dividend increase again after having frozen its dividend for several years. Nevertheless, CVS had delivered total returns of 39% on an annualized basis when it achieved Home Run status.

Several stocks in the list above show total returns of less than 100%.

My rule of thumb is that once a position had reached Home Run status, it will retain the status even if the total returns should dip below 100%. That can happen if the share price drops or if I buy additional shares at a higher cost basis.

Note that I've reopened positions in DLR and NOC after closing my original positions, both home runs. Repeat positions like DLR and NOC will have to earn home run status all over again... they don't get a free ride!

Below is a snapshot of DivGro's existing home run stocks, sorted by total profit/loss%:

Thirty-six of my existing positions are home run stocks. With annualized total returns of 111% and 90%, respectively, AAPL and MST are by far my most successful investments! It would be interesting to see which of these positions will become my first Ten Bagger.

      Home Run #43

DivGro's 43rd home run stock is Archer-Daniels-Midland (ADM), a company founded in 1898 and headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.

ADM procures, transports, stores, processes, and merchandises agricultural commodities, products, and ingredients in the United States and internationally. The company also offers futures commission merchant and insurance services. ADM operates through three segments: Ag Services and Oilseeds, Carbohydrate Solutions, and Nutrition.

I opened my ADM position in February of 2019 and doubled my position in October of the same year.  The stock took about 1,108 days to achieve home run status:

Here is a price chart of ADM indicating my trades and the point where the stock reached home run status:

ADM has performed really well since July 2021, and the stock's total return of 37% on an annualized basis is impressive!

      Home Run Contenders

Here are the nearest Home Run contenders based on total annualized returns:
      • Public Storage (PSA)  — up 75% (33% annualized)
      • Chubb Limited (CB) — up 75% (27% annualized)
      • The Coca-Cola Company (KO) — up 74% (12% annualized)
PSA seems to have the momentum, so we'll see if the stock beats out CB and KO to reach Home Run status first.

      Concluding Remarks

With total returns exceeding my initial investment, ADM is the latest home run stock in my DivGro portfolio. I'm looking forward to seeing which stock becomes Home Run Number 44!

        1. I have 43 Home Runs, but 98 positions in my portfolio. So, more than half of my portfolio are not yet Home Runs. That's plenty of seeds for future Home Runs.
