After more than a year of fruitful collaboration, including rolling out Dividend Radar as a free resource for Dividend Growth Investors, I’ve accepted an invitation to join the Portfolio Insight team as their Product Strategist.
Portfolio Insight is a subscription-based application for investors and the platform that automatically generates Dividend Radar. I’ve been using Portfolio Insight for more than a year, employing the application’s extensive analysis and visual tools not only to manage my DivGro portfolio, but also to prepare and publish articles on Seeking Alpha, TheStreet.com, TalkMarkets, and The DIV-Net. Let me share some of my reasons for joining Portfolio Insight.
I’ve been collaborating with the Portfolio Insight team since March 2020. They asked for my feedback on a draft version of Dividend Radar and I immediately liked the idea of using a rules-based and automated approach to maintaining a list of Dividend Champions, Contenders, and Challengers.
Automation offers many benefits, including greater accuracy and consistency. More importantly, though, Dividend Radar is updated and published every week and includes added value metrics such as the 5-year average dividend yield, percentage above or below fair value, and trailing total returns.
Dividend Radar has received incredibly positive feedback from the community and averages over 2,000 downloads per month.
After rolling out Dividend Radar, we continued our collaboration with a view to improving the Portfolio Insight application. I found the idea of leveraging Portfolio Insight's powerful technology platform very appealing, so I encouraged the team to implement Dividend Channel Charts, a wonderful visual tool for dividend growth investors that offers a unique way to properly value dividend growth stocks.
In short order, the team rolled out the new tool and I couldn’t be happier! Creating a single chart used to take several hours of manual data collection and spreadsheet manipulation. Now it literally takes me the time to type the ticker of a dividend growth stock!
Portfolio Insight is built on a sophisticated platform created by technology veterans. This team has built systems used by several of the world’s largest banks and well-known household names such as Microsoft, Google, and Facebook. Their speed of implementation is truly impressive, and we’ve continued to develop and add custom charting features to the application, including ranking charts such as the ones I use in monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of my DivGro portfolio.
Portfolio Insight provides a comprehensive portfolio management tool that allows users to track any number of accounts and positions. With its broker-grade data feed, Portfolio Insight automatically updates your positions based on the latest market data, tracks your dividend income payments, forecasts future dividend income based on announcements and payout history, and helps you monitor the performance of individual positions and your portfolio as a whole.
I love tinkering with my elaborate system of interconnected spreadsheets, so I appreciate Portfolio Insight’s unlimited data download functionality. Eventually, though, I’d like to see most of this analysis-capability find its way into Portfolio Insight as features for subscribers!
What really excites me about my association with Portfolio Insight is the tools we plan to deliver to subscribers in the near future. What you see now is just the tip of the iceberg. For example, in the coming months, we plan to roll out model portfolios and tools based on state-of-the-art data analysis, and Stock Snapshots providing an executive summary of the ins and outs of high-quality dividend growth stocks.
My role at Portfolio Insight will be to spearhead the design of these exciting new features by bringing my experience as a dividend growth investor and my background as computer graphics and visualization expert to the team. I believe we have an application for investors that is truly unique in the industry and our combined skillsets will propel it to new levels of innovation.
I’d like to encourage you to check out Portfolio Insight, which offers a 14-day, no-obligation free trial. If you use my affiliate link and subscribe during the 14-day free trial, you'll receive a 20% discount on the first year's annual subscription price of $330. Or you can follow me on Twitter and Facebook.
Interested! Where is the annualized return though for comparing different investments? Yet to find an investment tracking site that can take your invested capital, by date and amount, and benchmark it against other investments, such as an S&P Index.
ReplyDeleteThis is possible with Portfolio Insight.

Hi, I'd like to signup on portfolio insights, love what you all are offering. Could yo please send me the discount code?
ReplyDeleteIt would be really nice if the system could use PLAID to automatically download transactions (like simplysafedividends does). Any thoughts on adding this?
I'm waiting for a special link with the discount code. I'll let you know as soon as I get it.
DeleteWe discussed automatically downloading transactions. It is possible, but potentially has security risks. Also, most sites allows downloading of a limited time frame, such as 2 years max; which means you can't get a complete picture of your portfolio. We're still discussing options.
Most brokers allow downloads of cvs for holdingd and transactions, an upload feature bypasses the security issue.
DeletePortfolio Insight supports bulk upload of transactions.

Does the program auto add dividend reinvestments or will I need to add those manually?
ReplyDeleteLikely not, but I'll check if that is an option.
DeleteAuto-adding dividend reinvestments is not viable, sorry.
DeleteHi, Could you provide a quick comparison of Portfolio Insight to Simply Safe Dividends? Major things one does that the other doesn't. PI seems really cool but I just bought into SSD and both services aren't cheap. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI use both, because they provide very different services. SSD's focus is on dividend stocks. It's great for tracking the dividend safety of stocks in your portfolio (or a watchlist). I like their notes around earnings and the possibly impact on dividend safety. I frequently read SSD's notes about any new tickers I'm interested in. PI covers all US-traded stocks, not only dividend stocks. Charting and portfolio management is fantastic. Provides valuation using three different methods. With research and dynamic watchlist features, you can FIND tickers of interest. Tracks dividend income, and projects future dividend income and total return prospects.
