Goals for 2022

I like setting challenging but doable goals. Such goals demand extra effort and focus. They require commitment, patience, and constant monitoring. Sometimes, when progress is not sufficient, they require a course correction.

It is not beneficial to set goals that are easily achievable. Such goals are uninspiring and won't deliver a special sense of accomplishment. On the other hand, it doesn't make sense to set goals that are impossible to achieve.

In this article, I'm presenting my goals for 2022.

Goals for 2020

I like setting challenging but achievable goals. Challenging goals demand extra effort and focus. They require commitment, patience, and constant monitoring. Sometimes, when progress is not sufficient, they require a course correction.

It is not beneficial to set goals that are too easy to achieve. Such goals don't require special effort and are uninspiring! Furthermore, achieving easy goals won't give you a special sense of accomplishment.

Goals for 2019

I believe in setting stretching but achievable goals.

It is not very useful to entertain goals that are easy to achieve. Such goals are not inspiring and they don't require special effort. And achieving an easy goal won't give you a special sense of accomplishment.

On the other hand, setting goals that are unachievable or impossibly hard is not useful either. Doing so just sets you up for failure.

Stretching goals demand extra effort and focus. They require commitment, patience, and constant monitoring. Sometimes, when progress is not sufficient, they require a course correction.

Goals for 2018

Welcome to my goals post for 2018!

In this article, I'll do a quick review of my 2017 goals and present my goals for 2018.

I believe in setting stretching yet achievable goals. It is not useful to entertain goals that are impossible to achieve. On the other hand, goals that are easily achievable will not require special effort and probably won't give you a special sense of achievement.

Goals for 2017

The year 2016 is almost over, so it is time to set new goals for 2017!

I believe in setting stretching yet achievable goals. It is not useful to entertain goals that are impossible to achieve. On the other hand, setting goals that are easy to achieve will not require special effort and will not leave you with a special sense of accomplishment.

Goals for 2016

With a week to go before Christmas, I think it is a good time to set new goals for DivGro for 2016!

2015 has been a busy year for DivGro and I've achieved some challenging goals. I increased projected annual dividend income from $4,900 to about $8,000, some $500 above my 2015 goal. Also, 2015 dividend income stands at $7,700, which easily beats my goal of $6,000 for the year.

I'm on track to achieve several of the other goals I set for 2015, which is great news! Although I'll miss out on a couple of my goals, I consider that as inspiration to try harder next year. Of course, if you easily achieve all the goal you've set, perhaps they were not challenging enough!

Before listing my 2016 goals, I'd like to state some assumptions and commitments:

Goals for 2015

Happy Solstice Day! Today, the sun stands still in declination, having reached the highest position for an observer on the South Pole. For us in the Northern Hemisphere, today is Winter Solstice. The day is as short as it will be all year long (9 hours 33 minutes in San Francisco where I live).

Solstice day is a great day to set new goals for DivGro for 2015!

In my previous post, I reviewed my 2014 goals and reported that I've achieved all of them, essentially. The one goal I haven't achieved yet is one that I updated on 11 July 2014, to write 100 posts for DivGro instead of 72. This is my 98th post, so I'm confident that I'll achieve that goal, too.

Before listing my 2015 goals, I'd like to state some assumptions and commitments:

Reviewing my 2014 Goals

I've been thinking about setting new goals for 2015. Before doing so, though, I'd like to review my 2014 goals.

I believe in setting stretching yet attainable goals. It is not useful to entertain goals that are impossible or even nearly so. On the other hand, setting goals that are simply attainable will not require special effort, nor would one feel a great sense of satisfaction in accomplishing them

Stretching goals demand extra effort and focus. They require commitment, patience, and constant monitoring. Sometimes, when progress is not sufficient, they require changing your approach entirely.

Midway Review of 2014 Goals

With 2014 halfway over, I want to review the goals I've set for 2014 and where I stand. Doing so not only helps to monitor progress, but allows me to make strategic adjustments if necessary.

I've set some challenging yet attainable goals for 2014. Of the four goals, three are easily measurable and my progress at the midway point can be expressed in percentage terms. As for the fourth goal, I've made good enough progress to give myself a passing grade.

A glimpse of six figures...

This morning when I checked my account balance, it had crossed the six figure mark for the briefest of time! Six figures! After having started DivGro about 18 months ago, this is certainly a great milestone to reach.

In the 18 months of managing DivGro, my deposits totaled $84,000. DivGro has earned near $2,500 in dividend income, so my capital gains are approaching $13,500. I'm quite pleased with DivGro's performance and I'm on track to meeting my goals for 2014.

Goals and Milestones

In October last year, I wrote my first milestones post and reported that I had reached three of my 2013 goals. I also reported on several additional milestones, including crossing $200 in projected monthly dividend income and reaching 10,000 page views. Today, I'd like to report on several recent milestones and provide a goals update.

I wrote my first post on January 10, 2013. Since then, I've written 103 posts (including this one), so I've quietly reached the milestone of 100 posts in DivGro! In the process, I've learned a tremendous amount about blogging, dividend growth investing and how to value dividend growth stocks. My portfolio has grown substantially and, if all goes well, it should reach six figures sometime in August.

Annual Review, 2013

I created DivGro in January of 2013 to generate a reliable and growing dividend income stream. By keeping track of the portfolio in this blog and by interacting with like-minded investors, I've become a better dividend growth investor. I've learned a tremendous amount about dividend growth investing, how to value dividend stocks and, frankly, the benefits of blogging!

The purpose of this post is to review DivGro's performance in 2013. I'd like to do this by measuring DivGro's performance against the goals I've set for 2013 and by looking at the portfolio's overall performance (rate of return, dividend income, dividend growth, and yield on cost).

Goals for 2014

With less than 3 weeks to go in 2013, I want to set new goals for DivGro for 2014.

After having set some challenging goals for 2013, I've reached three of them by October 6 this year. One can argue that perhaps my goals were not quite challenging enough. Nevertheless, I'm happy that I've come this far and that, soon, I'll be celebrating the 1-year anniversary of DivGro!

For 2014, I've set 4 new goals for DivGro:

Quarterly Review, Q3-2013

The third quarter of DivGro has ended and its time again to look at the portfolio's performance.

In Q3, I contributed $3,000 in capital funds to DivGro. Dividend income for the quarter was $385.89, up from $235.34 received in Q2. This is the second consecutive quarterly increase in dividend income.

I purchased shares in five new dividend growth stocks, adding $617.38 to DivGro's projected annual dividend income, which now totals $1,766.19.

Monthly Review, September 2013

September was one of the quieter months for DivGro. I added only one stock, PennantPark Investment Corp. (PNNT), increasing DivGro's projected annual dividend income to $1,766. In comparison, August's projected annual dividend income was $1,522.

With a market value of $45,992, DivGro's projected annual dividend income of $1,766 averages to a yield of 3.85%.

TRV's dividend payment this month helped me reach my 2013 goal of earning at least $750 in dividend income with DivGro stocks! I've now earned $760.11 in dividend income.

Recent Buy: BBL

BHP Billiton plc Jun 3, 2013: Bought 43 shares of BBL at $58.39 per share.

BHP Billiton is a diversified natural resources company and one of the world's largest producers of major commodities, including aluminium, coal, copper, iron ore, manganese, nickel, silver and uranium. BHP Billiton is a dual listed company comprising of BHP Billiton Limited (BHP) and BHP Billiton Plc (BBL). I've acquired shares in BBL, an American Depository Receipt (ADR) listing of BHP Billiton Plc available on the NYSE.

Yesterday I shared the seven DivGro candidates that are at the top of my June dashboard. BBL is one of my favorites: it trades at a deep discount and has been growing its dividends aggressively. I also like BBL because it increases my sector diversification. So, today I decided to buy BBL, the 10th stock to be added to DivGro!

Goals for 2013

I believe in setting challenging yet attainable goals.

It is not advisable to entertain goals that are impossible, or even nearly so. No matter how hard I try, I will never run 100 meters in under 10 seconds. That feat is only possible for a select few, presently male-only, athletes, with the talent and training to make them world-class sprinters. On the other hand, if I wanted to, I could set a goal to become a good guitar player and with hard work and dedication, I could attain that goal in a few year's time.

Setting goals that are simply attainable will not require special effort, nor will I feel a great sense of personal satisfaction in accomplishing them. Challenging goals demand extra focus and commitment. They require me to raise the bar, to exert extra effort, to put in the time. And when I attain these goals, I know I'll experience a great sense of achievement.
