Monthly Review: April 2016

In April, I completed the consolidation of my portfolios of dividend paying stocks. DivGro now contains stocks and closed-end funds (CEFs) from 5 different accounts. I'll be managing DivGro as a single portfolio using the investment strategies developed when I started this blog.

This monthly review is the 40th I've compiled since creating DivGro. I'm somewhat astonished to see the progress... DivGro's market value just crossed the $300k level and, more importantly, projected annual dividend income is approaching $12,000. When that target is reached, it means that the portfolio will be generating $1,000 per month of dividend income, on average, in perpetuity!

Please see my Performance page for various visuals summarizing DivGro's performance.

April Highlights

I recorded dividend income totaling $1,536 this month, of which $651 is from dividends received in April and $885 is from past dividends recorded. This month, 17 of my stocks paid dividends and 7 stocks announced dividend increases. DivGro's average yield on cost (YoC) is 4.42% and the payback percentage is 8.28%.

Here is DivGro's projected monthly dividend income (red line) plotted against monthly dividends:

Comparing dividend income by month is another way to see progress:

Dividend income in April 2016 is 58% higher than the amount I received in April 2015.

    Goals Report

I've set some challenging goals for 2016:
    1. PADI: Increase projected annual dividend income to $12,000.
    2. Dividends: Earn $10,800 in dividend income.
    3. Posts: Post 120 articles on my DivGro blog.
    4. Seeking: Write 52 premium articles for Seeking Alpha.
    5. DivNet: Write 8 articles for The DivNet.
The last gauge is a reference – it indicates where the other gauges should be after 91 out of 366 days. I'm ahead of schedule with PADI,  Dividends, and Posts. I have yet to write for DivNet. I'm hoping to do so this month!

    April Posts

I wrote a total of 15 articles in April. In case you missed any of them, here they are:
Looking Ahead: I'm continuing the process of consolidating dividend paying stocks I hold in a couple of IRA accounts with those in DivGro. I still have a good portion of cash on hand, so I'll be looking for good opportunities to add to my holdings.

Thanks for reading and take care, everybody!

    3. Great report FerdiS. I do the same. My taxable account, 401K & IRA I view as one portfolio. I am lucky in that my 401k allows PCRA so I buy individual companies in that also. I merge all transactions into one portfolio using Google Docs and its great. To me it's just one big DGI Income account. I think OHI is an account I own in all three accounts and tying all the account together I instantly know my basis and other stats per company at a glance.

      1. Thanks, Mike A -- I wish I could buy individual stocks in my 401k. That would be so sweet. As for now, I'll have to be satisfied with the handful of mutual funds they offer. I have a few stocks in multiple accounts, but not a lot.

        Cheers

    4. Wow! 5-figures dividend income. I probably won't see it until Mr. and I to combine taxable dividend account. In the meanwhile, I'll keep coming back here for inspiration.

      1. Thanks, Tawcan -- the diversity of my portfolio is still under construction :-)

I can't imagine adding many more stocks, but there seems to be many excellent candidates that I don't yet own!

        Take care!
